Grandma Johnson and Trip to Anchorage

The trip to Anchorage went great. We left the dogs at home and had a neighbor kid come over and take care of them. I was a little nervous about that being their first time being watched but they did very well. I left a lot of treats for the kid to hopefully lure them and get to them to listen if they decided to mis behave. Haha they did awesome though, I really should give them more credit, especially Bubba. Anyway my mom and I flew into Anchorage and I got to use the family truck to pick up Traivs from the airport on his way back from Utah. It was a pretty cool reunion, I don't think he anticipated missing Wyatt so much. He spent a few extra minutes kissing on him before me so I KNOW he missed Wyatt a lot:) He bought him a bunch of little shirts and toys and it was very nice to have the family back together. We got to stay with Questa and Jesse in Anchorage and it was a very relaxing nice first night, with some awesome Thai food, haven't had that for a while so I was very excited! The next day we got to visit with Nana Laura for a minute and then we went shopping from about 10am to 4pm, yup shopping ahh just what I needed, a little retail therapy. Wyatt must have known I needed to walk around the mall aimlessly or something because he didn't make a peep the whole time and slept in his car seat! Perfect shopping buddy! That night we headed to Uncle Will and Aunt Lyndas for some homemade dinner and go to visit with the whole fam, and Wyatt got to meet his second cousin Liam who just turned a year! It was really nice seeing everyone with Wyatt for the first time. They just loved him, they all mentioned how much he looked like Uncle Rex, and yes he does! I remember Aunt Linda telling Grandpa, " man its like looking at my baby brother." Haha very cute, they all mentioned he was much cuter in person and they loved being with him. The next morning Aunt Lynda watched baby Wyatt for us and we went to breakfast with Grandpa Delbert, that was only the second person I have left him with, and I did surprisingly well but I was definitely missing him on the drive back. Anyway he was perfect and slept the whole time she said:) That night we got to go out to Red Robin, oh yeah I got a big fat hamburger, fries and vanilla milkshake, I had been dreaming of it ever since we got to Kodiak! Overall the trip was good but went way to fast. We will have to make a trip very soon. The flights for Wyatt for awesome too, he slept the whole there and the whole way back. Good baby!

Family in Anchorage.

Grandpa Delbert and his great grandson Wyatt. Grandpa says he likes Wyatt pretty good.

Newby men
Well my mother has come and gone. She was a huge help and enjoyed her time with her first grandson. She especially liked the fact they had matching hair, haha it was cute, she also agreed he definitely looks like a Newby boy. We had a lot of fun with Wyatt. The weeks she was here seemed to be when he really started vocalizing a lot and making more and more noises, especially in the morning. She did a lot of site seeing, and especially enjoyed the over abundance of bald eagles out here, their everywhere! The dogs really enjoyed mom, they slept on her lap and in her bed with her every chance they got. We did a hike to Fort Abercrombie with Wyatt and he seemed to do well in my backpack, however the walk in the jogging stroller did not do so well. He was screaming the entire time, guess we will wait to try that again! We are hoping she will get out here again with my dad and brother in the summer, but ticket prices are just outrageous right now so we will have to see. I could tell my mom got pretty attached to little man, and it was very hard for her to go. Wyatt will be in your arms again mom, don't worry!:)

So I had to add, that ever since he turned 2 months, he has gotten so vocal. Morning time is the most vocal, he does little screams, and oohs and ahhs a lot! I notice if you smile at him first he automatically smiles back and you and sometimes will do a little shake with his head back and forth while smiling. I am excited for Travis to see him because his eyes get bluer everyday. His hair is still a soft strawberry blond, haha its very cute but well see if he keeps it or loses it soon?! He also has finally learned to grunt real hard when needing to you know what, he use to cry and cry and fuss to relieve himself, now he kind just bares down and pushes his head into his neck and gets it! Haha oh how my little man is growing up:)

February

So right now its just Wyatt, me, and the dogs and we have been holding down the fort till my mom gets here, yeah Grandma Johnson will be here soon! The dogs need some grandma attention, and I guess Wyatt does too;)  Travis has been in Anchorage for the last couple days and will be there for a week before he heads to Utah. He is doing Avalanche training and has had long busy days. They have been able to ski tho and he says its been pretty fun. When he leaves to Utah he will continue training and get to a lot of good skiing. Yes he got off the island AGAIN, and I didn't! Thats ok tho because we have a trip planned to Anchorage next month for couple days. We get to see all Travis' family and Wyatt's second cousins! It will be his first trip on a plane and I am so happy my mom gets to do this adventure with me! The best part is I get to go to the mall and eat at a chain restaurant, YES I have been craving some serious Red Robin or something like that!:) Things with Wyatt have been great, he is getting bigger and brighter everyday! We just had our 8 week or 2 month check up and he is growing and moving right along. Our little guy is 12.2 pounds ( 50th percentile ) and 24.5 inches ( 95th percentile ) Yup he is a tall guy! The entire appointment Travis was trying to show the doctor how strong Wyatt was by making him hold his head up and stand on his own feet and balance for a second, finally the doctor said, " Yes, he is very strong for babies his age." Just what Travis had been waiting to hear the whole appointment! Haha Travis loves hearing his little man is strong. Wyatt's eye color is really starting to come thru now, they are a beautiful blue, hopefully he will keep that color! He is smiling all the time and loves to smile when you look at him and smile. He also has been learning to put his hands in his mouth and I got one good out loud laugh, that was so cute. His favorite time to smile however is at 3 am right after he eats, and I'm like OH NO you are going back to bed, we are not going to goof off right now:) He has been successfully sleeping a good 5-6 hours when I put him down now for the last week, but after that its every 3 hours. We have been trying to get him on a schedule, so we will see how it goes. I love his oohs and ahhs that he does all the time now, its so sweet. I am excited to see what Travis sees has changed in him when he gets home in 3 weeks! I bet he will be so different, that will be a good day when our little family is together again!:) I got the clear to start working out, so I am slowly getting back into it, its surprising how much your body changes after a baby! Haha I think I'm starting to learn what birthing hips are!? All I know is they better go back! Anyway its been a fun month, and Valentines day was spent just the three of us at home with a nice bottle of wine that Travis brought home from Spain, and Wyatt rocking his heart breaker sweatsuit. Wyatt got Dad another recordable book, and so we get to listen to Dads voice every night before bedtime while he is gone.

Wyatt's 1 month old!

Bath time, he was around 3 weeks here.

1 Month, every month I am going to size him up to this frame to see his growth compared to something else.

So Wyatt is 1 month old and is weighing around 10.2 oz according to our scale at home. Makes sense the boy eats every two hours on the dot, even at night!! So remember how we thought all he did was sleep, well not anymore! I think 3 weeks and 1 day he completely transformed into the awake baby, he is always up with me during the day it seems. Also, the sounds that he use to sleep thru like the dogs barking, someone knocking, or the t.v. seem to startle and wake him up during naps now. He is starting to be a lot more aware and is always looking around for something to look at. We recently started using the swing and its so cool because he will watch the fish go around in a circle above his head, it enertains him for maybe 1 minute:) He has also been trying to suck his thumb but cant quite figure out how to get it out of his fist. Travis trys to pull it out and put it in his mouth but he always winds up sucking his on his whole fist. He took a bottle at about 3 and half weeks like a champ. Dad made me leave the house to return a movie so I wouldn't be a distraction, and I was so worried he would take the bottle and never need me anymore haha, but nope I got home and he wanted to feed with me right away! I have also noticed that he is starting to love his mamas touch and hold, and I dont want to say he favors me yet but he might be a mama's boy!:)

1 month birthday present, Jungle Gym!! He's trying to grab things but really just hits it on accident and wonders what that was!

Bottle time.
Travis has also recently gone back to work and I have been holding the fort down with the dogs for a couple days now without him. Its been going pretty well, the dogs are behaving and have only chewed on one outfit and his giraffe toy once. I have to constantly watch Bailey our bulldog tho because she likes to stick her huge head on the edge of the swing and stop it to lick his feet until he can't take it anymore or until I have to yell at her. Bubba just looks at him, maybe gives him a nudge and walks away. They are both doing really well and Wyatt is starting to look at them more when they come to say hi. Wyatt also has this incredibly cute noise he makes after two sneezes, it happens almost every time. He will sneeze this big egzagerated sneeze and then as he is going back to do another one he goes, ooooohhhh instead really loud, as if he just had the biggest sigh of relief ever. We always look forward to it and keep trying to record it but never get it in time. Anyway I was really looking forward to my mom being here in less than a week but she recently changed her ticket for me because Travis came home and told me that he will be leaving for 20 days at the end of February for avalanche training in Utah, so I had my mom change her ticket to come at that time instead for help and support. I am very sad about that because Wyatt will be turning 3 months and will be changing a lot but I know we can do it without dad if we have to! Thanks mom for doing that for me.

Everyone waiting for Dad to come home.

Were home...Day 1 to Week 3 with Wyatt

First off I would like to tell my mother, thank you! Thank you for keeping me alive as a newborn! I have a complete new found respect for women and moms! It has been a awesome three weeks for us, Travis has had to go into work very little and when he does is always right back at home with us. We all got to leave the hospital the next day and it worked out perfect because Travis' dad got into town the same day! It has been such a learning experience for both Travis and I but we are doing quite good I think! He came home with a little jaundice and so we were advised to just keep nursing and have a check up at 2 weeks. When he came home he weighed 7.11 oz and we were told he would lose a few pounds but should re gain some weight or get up to his birth weight on our 2 week check up. Well we had our check up and the little guy was almost 100% cleared of his jaundice and weighs 8.14 oz's, the doctor asked if I was giving him growth hormones! Nope just a good feeder I guess, we were also convinced he was just catching up on some extra poundage he needed:) We don't go into until 8 weeks now. Feeding has been a little painful and challenging at times but it seems to get a little better each day, night feedings are tough and we are definitely on Wyatt's schedule. You always hear about sleep deprivation but I thought no not us, I get to sleep all day and take naps with him when he does, but even if you do somehow happen to get a little nap during the day you are still sooooo TIRED! It didn't hit me until the start of week 3!

The first two weeks Wyatt didn't do much, a lot of sleep, eat, poop, and fuss a little, but week 3 I am starting to notice he is awake more and starting to look me in the eyes, especially during nursing. He loves looking at lights and out the window and is getting a little more interesting. It kinda reminds me when we bought our first dog Max and brought him home, I was so excited to have him but he didn't do anything the first day, he slept, and cried and when my brother met him for the first time, he said, " he's boring, make him do something " then walked away. Not to compare my first born and first dog, but the first weeks are a lot of learning and then waiting for something interesting but it wasn't until week 3 that i started to notice his little personality, his different crys, and his little looks.

Anyway he is doing great and he gets to take a lot of naps with Dad and has taken a few nice warm baths too because his umbilical cord fell off on day 9! He loves lounging in his tub, we say he looks like a little old man sitting in a hot tub. He gets really relaxed and kinda spaces out in the warm water. The dogs have been awesome with Wyatt too, they were really calm the first days and Travis made sure of that! Bubba has to come check on him every time he crys and usually sniffs his feet and then looks at me to see if I'm going to do anything. Bailey I don't think really knows whats going on, she still trys to sleep on our laps even when were holding him. Im afraid she will smother him with her huge wrinkles. Anyway the trip with my in laws was great, they cooked us breakfast, lunch, and dinner everyday and I don't think I ever had to clean, or pick up anything the whole time. Thank you so much Peg and Rex. They really enjoyed spending time with their first grandson as well, it was cool to see 3 generations of Newby men together for the first time! My mom is due up here in a week and Im sooo excited to get help again;) We also gave him his first binky at 3 weeks, and he did pretty well and took it but sometimes spits it out right away but for the most part its been a success, lord knows we will need it for those plane rides!

Yup a lot of sleepy time!
